There is actually a free, user friendly, online portal for email communications between doctors and patients, www.housedoc.us. Takes all the hassles you mentioned out of the equation. It can be used anywhere around the world.

I've poked around a little bit with Google Health.
-I like that it's simple to navigate. The list of meds is quite convenient, as all the fact sheets are one click away. You can scan in paper records. You can also share your record with certain contacts and web services. There is also the option of searching for a physician, with the results linking to ratings, hospital/practice website, map -- which worked great until I tried searching for a few Canadian doctors... All in all, it's not bad - I am not sure just how interoperable/portable it is and how well it scales for patients with long histories and huge lists of procedures/meds.

For another perspective, here is a post by Dr. Jay Parkinson on a not-so-fun experience with importing data into Google Health: The 'promise' of Google Health and data liquidity in health care.
